New sounds, new smells, and a new layout can actually make you feel homesick for your old, comfortable digs. Here are a few of our suggestions for making your house feel like home.

Make Your Bedroom Cozy

Make the bedroom the first priority. After an exhausting day of moving and dealing with details, you’ll be so happy to have a clean and cozy place to fall asleep. It will give you peace of mind at the end of the day, but also a fresh and energizing start to the next one.

Set Up The Bathroom

Get started in the bathroom once your bedroom is done. You start and end your day here, so give it a good cleaning, hang up the shower curtain, set out the towels, and pamper yourself with a candle and fine soaps.

Stock The Kitchen

Paper plates may be a necessity when you first move in, but eating off of real dishes and taking time to prepare a meal in your new kitchen will go a long way in helping you feel at home. Stock up on fresh foods and perishable items, set up your coffee maker or tea kettle, and avoid putting boxes on the kitchen table so you’ll always have a place to eat.

Hide The Boxes

Look, no one expects you to be perfectly unpacked in a short amount of time. But getting the boxes you’re still working with out of sight will help in a few ways. First, you’ll be able to see your new home taking shape. Second, you’ll better know what needs to be unpacked and what may not have a place in your new home after all. You’ll get to those boxes eventually.

Throw A Party

A housewarming party is a great way to celebrate getting settled in. Food, laughter, and friendship will certainly help you feel at home and get you over the stress of the move. Make a priority to invite people over so they can see your new place!
